Explanation of Truck's Tire Size

For safety purposes, understanding the truck tire sizes is very crucial. As the trucks and buses carry heavy loads, the tires must be chosen wisely to bear the weight. A standard profile will resemble 11r22.5 truck tires whereas a low-profile holds 275/80R22.5G. The 11 or 275/80 proffers the section width and aspect ratio.  "R" represents the radial tires. The wheel diameter is 22.5 where the "G" depicts the load rating. Of course, for an unloaded tire, section width is the broadest point. The section height is from the wheel rim to the outer surface of the tire. Aspect Ratios  The standard profile of truck tires starts with 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Therefore, Standard profile tires hold an aspect ratio of 88 percent. In other words, the height of the tire from rim to tread will be 88 percent of the width.
